When you design a website, you weave your company’s story into visual elements. A well-designed website reflects your brand, converts customers, and stands out amongst your competitors. Web design plays an essential role in establishing what your company or brand is all about. As the new age of web design arises, old trends fall and fresh trends take the stage. Each year, we witness the emergence of a new trend, and to stay competitive, we must adapt to these changes continuously. In terms of web design trends, what can we expect? Here’s everything you need to know about it!

But first, let’s go over some notable changes in the History of Web Design!

Compared to the dark times of the late 80s, web design today is a far cry from what it was. Website design has changed significantly over the years, going from text-only interfaces in the 1980s to bulky block layouts in the 1990s to the emergence of bloggers in the mid-2000s. It was only in early 2010 that mobile-friendly designs were introduced, which is why you are able to scroll through websites conveniently on your smartphone today. One of the defining aesthetics of web design in the last decade has been typography, illustration, and other visual graphics. Gradients have recently started dominating the web design space in 2020.

Additionally, as technology has advanced, artificial intelligence has taken control of the web design industry. With the introduction of Web 3.0, most websites and social media platforms such as Reddit, Discord, etc. have become more community-driven, engaging, and content-creator-centered, giving even more control to the audience than before.

Here is a list of web design trends to look out for in 2023 –
  1. Connect Better With Storytelling

What do people look for in a website?

People want to engage with a product or service they feel connected with. And not just the customer, but almost everyone today wants to feel connected with the product, and the best way for you to do that is by integrating storytelling techniques into your web design.

Look at Jess&Russ for example!  You can’t help but be drawn in by it, can you?

  1. Parallax Scrolling

The trend of parallax scrolling has been gaining popularity for several years now, but few websites have actually adopted it yet. As a matter of fact, there are numerous benefits to it! To create the illusion of depth in a two-dimensional scene from a distance, parallax scrolling uses backgrounds that move slower than foreground images. In 2D images, parallax scrolling creates the illusion of 3D. This increases the realism of the animation and draws the user in.

Over the years, parallax scrolling has become more widespread. It is expected that many trends like these will be incorporated into web design in the future.  Consider this website, for example!

  1. Dynamic Elements and Animations – Catch the eye!

A good Web design is like a feast for the eyes. What makes a good web design stand out? A design that catches the user’s attention and engages them like no other.

Animations are all the rage now! The eye is drawn to interactive visual elements and good-quality graphics. Research shows that an Animated webpage keeps users on it three times longer than one without animation.

Google itself animates its logo for events and occasions. One can hop on the trend and use Dynamic, Non-Static Elements and make the User Interface Interactive. Use Effects and animations that are both subtle and eye-catching.

  1. Combining Aesthetics With Functionality – Designed for Gen Z

Online groups dominated by Gen Z, particularly on social media platforms, have created some beautiful yet clever aesthetic trends. Many, like this one, fall under the hugely popular category of “Dark Academia.” If you’ve ever scrolled through Pinterest or Instagram, you’d know what Dark Academia is all about. Emerging aesthetic trends like Dark Academia, Light Academia, and Cottagecore Aesthetics are all the rage.

It has become the subculture of the current generation, influencing fashion to interior decor with moody maximalism, IG themes, and Pinterest mood boards. So why not a website too?

Eventually, it would be incorporated into the web design world as well. Many platforms such as Behance, Pexels, and Dribble already use these aesthetics as inspiration. The current pop culture has widely accepted these trends, even going so far as integrating these aesthetics into music albums such as Folklore and Evermore. As the modern generation rises, so will these trends. It is just a matter of time.

  1. Design targeted for the Young – The Millenial Way
Millennial design

Millennials make up a quarter of the working population. It is inevitable that millennials will build empires, and as the world becomes more technologically advanced, so will the websites.

The website you create will represent your business online. And if you want to connect with this technology-driven generation, you must adhere to their guidelines and create a website that meets their requirements. Millennials want Websites that are original, efficient, and easy to use for clients, which means that they keep an eye out for brands that stray from the usual established aesthetic and find what they are looking for.

  1.  Adding Funk with Asymmetrical Design – Organised Chaos
order

In web design, Symmetry conveys a sense of stability and formality. Although organised elements are soothing to the eye, they become monotonous over time. After a while, the eye gets accustomed to it and it loses its appeal.

It’s time to try something new – Yes, we’re talking about Asymmetrical designs. The layout can be scattered, chaotic but organised, or wholly unique and custom-designed. You can begin a new trend!

When it comes to website layouts, there is no one-size-fits-all answer, but a little

creativity can go a long way.

  1. Making it Fancy with AR and VR

Today, it wouldn’t be far-fetched to say that web design has an influence that goes beyond the screen. The trend of extended reality will also continue to grow and leave a lasting impression in 2023.

Virtual reality VR

The technology of augmented reality enhances physical reality with digital elements. On the other hand, VR entirely submerges site visitors in an online world of our own making. Future years could see holograms, spatial audio, and augmented elements becoming more popular.

  1. A Quote for a Quote

Words have the power to draw you in. Putting a mind-boggling quote just at the top of your website can give a mysterious yet eye-catchy appeal and capture the user’s attention. It may give your website’s design a distinctive appeal if used wisely.

The Good Quote design

Take a look at FeedMusic’s website, for instance. There is nothing like the power of a mind-blowing quote.

So, what do you think?

Will these trends dominate the World of Web Design in 2023? Only time can tell.

What we do know is that in order to flourish, one must always adapt to the tides of time. We are here to create a memorable web experience and for that, websites must adhere to the latest trends.
